Vilcabamba Horse Tours

We leave from Vilcabamba and visit the villages of Chaupi and Cucanama. We cross the Uchima river over a traditional hanging suspension bridge and follow an irrigation canal on the face of the Mandango Mountain range. There are beautiful views of the entire valley. We stop at a lookout to eat a snack you've brought, or if in season, we can sample fruit directly from the trees. We then continue on to discover the villages of Huilcos, Cuba Libre and Yamburara. We start by visiting the villages of Huilcos and Cuba Libre. We then pass through the farmlands of the indigenous Mollepamba Indians, enjoying some of the finest scenery in the entire Vilcabamba Valley. This tour is at a high altitude and offers breathtaking views along the entire tour. After passing through the village of San Jose, we then cross the river Chamba. In this tour we visit the villages of Yamburara Low, High Yamburara and the estoraque rock formations. We stop at the spectacular Palto Waterfall for about a half hour. Bring your swimming gear if you want to go for a swim! This tour goes through private native Ecuadorian farms so you can experience the real Ecuador. Starting from Vilcabamba, we visit the villages of Yamburara Low, High Yamburara and the estoraque rock formations. We cross the Chamba river where we take a trail to the edge of Podocarpus National Park where we stop at another river for lunch and if you want, you can go for a swim. First Day: We leave Vilcabamba, visiting Barrios Yamburara Low, High Yamburara and the estoraques. We cross the Chamba River and stop at our night's shelter for a short rest and to enjoy a lunch in the dining area. We then go for a 2 hour walk in the park and return to the shelter for a memorable evening campfire.
Second Day: After breakfast, we spend the morning walking and marvelling at the nature in the National Park, returning to the shelter for lunch, and then get back on the horses to return to Vilcabamba. View a slideshow here. Watch a short panoramic video here.
